Soul Calibur 4, One of the most critically acclaimed one-on-on fighting games in the industry. This game is very well done on almost every variable of a game, ALMOST. One of my major complaints is the story, you will be confused and if your not then you have a super interpretation power. I had no idea what this game's story was until I took about 3-4 looks at how everyone is connected. You can always read the intro but it doesn't really help out the other character story lines. Not to mention the odd-unique characters that they created and put in there. It makes me miss the 3rd games story, the one where your guy had some minimal RPG elements of leveling up and little army battles.
Anyways, the strong points of this game are the character creation, graphics, and combat system. First off, the character creator is magnificent and steeped with depth, the more you progress in the game the more you unlock to create with. Next are the graphics, oh the graphics, it seems that progressing through the series the graphics get sharper and the "anatomical physics" get....bouncier. But seriously, the graphics are really well done and are still nice to see, even though on occasions you might see somethings go through other things. Lastly, the combat system, this is the best weapon-based versus game that I have ever seen, period. It is the best for being strategic, fast-paced, and for every character being equal; no one character is better than any other, it mainly relies on the skill of the individual to push the boundaries of their own success, even I am still pushing the boundaries of the Mitsurugi weapon style.
Overall, this game is a highly recommend game for any fighting fan (but if they don't have the latest Street Fighter game, get them that first).
7.3/10
I used to be so good at Soul Calibur 2 but when I went to play 4 with a couple friends I found I had reverted back into being terrible at fighting games. I don't think I ever won a match in Soul Calibur 4.
